A duo at the heart of the story
GTA 6 follows two lead characters, Jason and Lucia, bound together by the same story. According to Rockstar Games' official synopsis, they have always known the deck is stacked against them.
When an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on "the darkest side of the sunniest place in America", in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida. To make it out alive, they will have to rely on each other more than ever.
Jason Duval, the Army veteran from the Keys
Jason Duval wants an easy life, but things just keep getting harder, Rockstar sums up. He grew up around grifters and crooks.
After a stint in the Army trying to shake off his troubled teens, he ended up in the Keys doing what he knows best: working for local drug runners. Meeting Lucia could be the best or worst thing to ever happen to him, according to his official profile.
Lucia Caminos, out of prison with a plan
Lucia Caminos's father taught her to fight as soon as she could walk. Fighting for her family landed her in the Leonida Penitentiary, and sheer luck got her out, Rockstar explains.
More than anything, she wants the good life her mom has dreamed of since their days in Liberty City, the big city of GTA IV. Fresh out of prison, she has learned her lesson: only smart moves, and a plan she will follow no matter what it takes. A life with Jason could be her way out.
Their circle: Cal Hampton and Brian Heder
Two people close to Jason already have official profiles. His friend Cal Hampton, a fellow associate of Brian's, feels safest at home with a few beers, snooping on Coast Guard comms.
Brian Heder is a drug runner from the golden age of smuggling in the Keys, still moving product through his boat yard with his third wife, Lori. He lets Jason live rent-free at one of his properties, as long as he helps with local shakedowns.
What we don't know yet
Rockstar hasn't explained how the game will be split between Jason and Lucia: we don't know whether you will be able to switch between them at will, or whether they will have different abilities.
The score gone wrong that kicks off the story hasn't been detailed either. Those answers will come with the game, on November 19, 2026.
