GTA 6 will need up to 212GB of storage depending on the console, Rockstar announced on November 3 in its pre-load announcement. The studio thus confirms, within 2GB, the figure the PlayStation Game Size account posted on X a week earlier: 210GB for the standard edition on PS5.

The same announcement moves pre-loading up to Tuesday, November 10, instead of the previously announced November 12. Launch remains set for November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Pre-load moves up to November 10

On PS5, digital pre-loading will open on November 10 at midnight local time in each time zone, Rockstar says. On Xbox Series X|S, it begins globally at the same moment, at 12 a.m. GMT.

Boxed copies hold only a download code rather than a disc, Journal du Geek notes. According to Rockstar, those codes should reach retailers from November 12, so the game will have to be downloaded either way.

What the October 27 leak said

PlayStation Game Size posted the 210GB figure on October 27, for the $79.99 standard edition. Per Rockstar Intel, the account pulls its data from the PlayStation Store back end; GamesRadar+ calls it reasonably reliable, while noting that download and install sizes can differ.

The number also matched the claims of leaker Cyberleek, who said in October that a development build of the game topped 200GB, Journal du Geek recalls. Such builds, however, carry diagnostic tools that inflate their size.

How much room to free up

On a standard PS5, which offers about 667GB of usable space out of 825GB, GTA 6 will take up nearly a third of the drive, Journal du Geek calculates, adding that the PS5 Pro and its 2TB drive leave more room. For comparison, GamesRadar+ cites GTA V at 105GB and Red Dead Redemption 2 at 150GB, both on PC.

Rockstar does not break down the size of each version: the game needs "up to 212 GB depending on your device," the studio writes. Before the announcement, Rockstar Intel expected a slightly larger Xbox Series X build and a smaller Series S one.

A day-one patch could still add to it, GamesRadar+ warns. Journal du Geek therefore suggests keeping about 250GB free rather than cutting it close.

The PC version still has no official date or size: read up on the rumor of an early 2027 release. Until November 10, get ready with our interactive map of Leonida.

What we don’t know yet

  • Rockstar has not given the exact size of each version, on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S.
  • The size of the day-one patch is unknown.
