GTA 6 Is Eligible for The Game Awards 2026, Barely
With a November 19 launch, GTA 6 clears The Game Awards 2026 cutoff of November 20. Whether voters will have played it in time is another question.

GTA 6 can compete at The Game Awards 2026. According to the ceremony's FAQ, as reported by GTA BOOM and Kotaku, a game must be commercially available by Friday, November 20, 2026, at 9 p.m. PT. Grand Theft Auto VI launches November 19, so it clears the bar by one day.
GTA BOOM stresses that Rockstar received no special exception: the cutoff follows the show's usual calendar pattern.
What the rules say
The FAQ sets a later deadline of November 30, 2026 for the fan-voted Players' Voice category. Last year, per GTA BOOM, the cutoff fell on November 21.
Kotaku points out that this year's date is much later than in 2025, when nominations had already been announced by November 17. That whole voting phase has effectively moved back.
The voter problem
Eligibility is not a nomination. Game of the Year nominations are typically voted by a jury in early to mid November, before GTA 6 reaches most players, GTA BOOM notes.
According to insider NateTheHate, cited by Kotaku, review copies could go out to media and creators before the end of October. The Game Awards FAQ also lets publishers supply pre-release copies for critical evaluation, per GTA BOOM. Rockstar has confirmed nothing so far. None of this is confirmed.
What we still don't know
It is unclear whether Rockstar will send press copies, and when. GTA BOOM recalls that the series won Game of the Year three times in the fan-voted Spike era, but never since the show moved to a jury. For what comes next, check our GTA 6 news and follow us on X.
